We, Janet and Andrew Franklin, are a married couple around 50 with mostly-grown children. Janet is a high school teacher and Andrew manages a warehouse for a nonprofit. The sort of cohousing community in which we would like to live does not exist in the place where we are, so we are seeking others to help create it with us. We have created this web page to share our vision – not as a controlling final edict but as a starting place for others to meet us, join us, and add their ideas into the mix. Here is one outline of how we imagine our dream playing out:
We go public with a website and begin gathering interested people. Monthly potluck dinners are organized to share ideas and begin a planning process.
We form an LLC and group into committees to dig into the nity gritty of community creation. We start seriously looking at possible properties and assessing our options for how to finance the dream. We choose a political and economic structure for our community.
We find our property and take possession of it. Design work is commissioned to reimagine the property to meet the needs of the community. Work parties are held to assist with the needed construction.
We are ready to start moving in.
